Out of all the gemstones I have worked with, I am always pulled back to aquamarine.
The name comes from Latin for seawater and is said to calm waves and keep sailors safe at sea. It is also said to enhance the happiness of marriage (wow, that’s powerful).
I have also read that mermaids wear them, but that could be fake news.
I get my stones cut in India, which is always a bit of a crap shoot. Sometimes there is a month-long festival, or, like now, smog in New Deli that puts a major delay on receivables.
But the material that I ask for, which is not perfect and transparent, feels like looking into the ocean itself. Layers of blue-green with cloud-like swirls make the moments of chaos forgettable.
