Saint Francis, the patron of peace and ecology, is often depicted with the birds he was said to have preached to, and the wolf he tamed to stop it from attacking scared villagers.
Francis, born in Assisi to a noblewoman and wealthy silk merchant, renounced his wealth and dedicated his life to serving the poor.
His patronage is broad, but the faithful invoke him when nature needs to come into harmony with man, and man with nature, and when we need to understand and come to terms with our inner wolf.
The pendant comes from a vintage prayer card collected in the Roman flea market, scribbled with prayers and hopes that were meant to be kept and passed down. Now they are preserved and ready for a new era of harmony between humankind and nature. The chain is 18 inches long.
